Linux Systems Engineer (Contract)

Position Overview:

We are currently in search for a Linux Systems Engineer to join our Infrastructure team. This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting Linux Server environments for internal Product Development systems, including troubleshooting and problem resolution for operating system and hardware issues.

Requirements & Experience:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or MIS or equivalent work experience required.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Linux/Unix engineer
  • 5+ years of experience with Apache and Tomcat including troubleshooting, configuration and installation.
  • Expert at reading and writing scripts in a Linux environment.
  • Experience with VMware, and ESX Server.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent documentation skills.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot problems and respond to inquiries in development, testing, and production environments, including web servers, application servers, and database servers.
  • Ensure availability and integrity of servers and services with techniques such as performance tuning and system monitoring
  • Work with Software development to ensure proper capacity planning and performance monitoring of the server, application & hardware.
  • Build servers following industry best practices and internal security policies and standards.
  • Enhance the current environment by creating scripts and tools to simplify and automate tasks, and help Network Operations work more efficiently.
  • Assist in management of source code control system, including user management, codeline management, branching, and planning for new projects.
  • 24/7 on call support.
